Goals and Learning Objectives

The goal of this module is to increase students' awareness of global events and issues and to help them complete the multimedia component for their E-Portfolio Project. .

--Students will be able to participate in two Blackboard Discussion Forums with their class members.

--Students will be able to conduct Internet research to profile a person, an organization, or a movement that has helped to improve people's lives.

--Students will create one multimedia representation to include in their E-Portfolio Project.

Instructional Plan

--If you are teaching one class of English 111 or 112, use the entire class for this WebQuest; however, if you have two or more sections, assign students to groups of 16 to 18 students.

--This WebQuest can be complete in four weeks: two weeks for the discussion forums and another two weeks for students to develop their multimedia representation.

--For Activity 2, add a forum in Blackboard titled "Playing for Change" or another appropriate title. In this forum, post the following guidelines: Message 1: In 150 words or more, what is the most powerful message of the Mark Johnson video? Message 2: After reading Message 1 responses, reply to two or more class members by offering additional commentary.

--Assign students to research a person, an organization, or a movement that is changing people's lives for the better.

--For Activity 4, add another forum titled "One Person Changing the World" or another appropriate title. Post the following guidelines: Message 1: Profile the person and the mission. List at least two ways this person, organization, or movement is changing the world for the better. Message 2: After reading Message 1 responses, reply to two or more class members by asking two questions each about their topic.

--For each Blackboard forum, allow one week for completion. Post two different due dates for Message 1 and Message 2. For instance, if you post the guidelines on Monday, Message 1 can be due mid-week and Message 2 on the following Monday.

--Students should have at least two weeks to design their multimedia representation of their person, organization, or movement.
