The Renal Cortex The kidneys produce Erythpoietin which causes synthesis of erythrocytes. The Juxtaglomerular apparatus, predominantly in the afferent arteriols, produces renin, an enzyme which goes to the liver to produce Angiotensin I, which goes to the lungs to ] produce angiotensin II.
