1999 ASEE Model
Design Competition Charlotte, NC June 21, 1999 |
TCC students Dave Gary and Norm Doyle worked for many months to design their car. They had little or no experience with sensors, motors, gearboxes, etc., and the learning curve was huge. They were worried about the track in Charlotte as it had many more knots than their home track. The knots could easily lead the car astray. On the first trial the car completed 1.5 laps out of three before following a knot off the track. On the second trial the car lost the line on the first curve. It all came down to one trial. The team held their breath as the car wound its way around the track. The audience burst into applause as the car crossed the finish line and captured the first place prize! |
