1999 ASEE Model Design Competition
Charlotte, NC
June 21, 1999

Broome Community College entered a cleverly designed vehicle referred to as a "cam car."  Rather than using optical sensors to follow the line on the track, the car used a mechanical cam to automatically turn the wheels at set intervals in order to navigate the track.  Unfortunately, cam cars are sometimes difficult to calibrate exactly and the car would eventually works its way further and further off the track as it tried to complete three laps.  If the car had been properly calibrated, it would have easily won the competition as it was very fast!
