- He holds degrees in Applied Engineering from the University of Louisville, Louisville, KY, and a Masters Degree in Management from Golden Gate University, San Francisco, CA, and a PhD in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA
- He is a retired naval officer, who served in Explosive Ordance Disposal, Deep Sea Diving (Mixed Gas) & Salvage, and Expendable Ordance Management billets.
