Founded in 1978, the Back Bay Amateur Astronomers (BBAA) is southestern Virginia's
largest and most active astronomy club. Drawn together by a common interest in
astronomy, BBAA members are dedicated to "bringing astronomy to the people
in Hampton Roads!" The BBAA is a 501(c)(3)
(not-for-profit, tax-exempt) scientific-educational organization.
Regular Meetings
Held the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM (except in December):
- Usual Site - held at the Virginia Beach campus of Tidewater Community
College, Science Bldg., room JC - 12 at 7:30
pm.
- Alternate Site - held at
various member's homes.
- December 14 - anniversary
dinner held in local restaurant.

Skywatches At Northwest River Park
"Skywatch", the public observing program
of the Back Bay Amateur Astronomers is conducted once each month in the
Equestrian area of Northwest River Park, 1733 Indian Creek Road
in Chesapeake.
Sessions are held on Friday with rain date for Saturday at 8 PM, on weekends
when the moon will usually not interfere with observation of the many deep sky
splendors. Come out and take a look through large telescopes at the moon and
planets, star clusters, galaxies, and more! Learn about the sky and your place
in the universe! And best of all, it's free!!!
Proposed 2002 Skywatch observing nights for the
NWRP Equestrian area are listed below. Weather conditions may force
postponement of sessions so it is recommended that interested parties please
call the Park at 421-7151 or one of our members to confirm if the
session will be held:

Membership Dues
$18.00 per year, prorated monthly so that all memberships run from
January to January.

Directions to Northwest
River Park
NOTE: Watch for brown and white signs marking route to the park, beginning
at I-64 exit.
From Interstate 64, take Exit 290-B onto Battlefield Blvd. (State Route 168
south).
Drive 15 miles down 168 south.
Take left onto Indian Creek
Road.
Drive 3.5 miles to main park entrance.
