"Chef Don"

Chef Don Averso has been coordinator of the culinary arts department since 2005 and had been teaching in the department as an adjunct since 1998. He holds an AAS degree in culinary arts/hospitality management as well as a BS degree from Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ and is currently pursuing a Masters Degree at ODU.

Chef Don has worked for Harris Teeter, Marriott, Sodexho, and Sage Dining, as well as various restaurants in the area. He has published a cooking DVD as well as contributed articles on food to the Virginian Pilot, and has worked as a demonstrating chef for WHRO-TV, SYSCO Hampton Roads, Toque Theater, Barnes & Noble, and the Five Points Community Farmer's Market at MacArthur Center.

Chef Don has also done volunteer work for CHKD, the March of Dimes, The Virginia Oncology Center, and the Virginia Marine Science Museum and serves on the advisory board for the P.D. Pruden School and the Virginia Beach Technology Center. He is an active member and serves as sub-committee chair for the local chapter of the American Chefs Federation.
