Learn about Indian architecture by exploring this site, reading carefully, and viewing images of monuments, forts, temples.  Take notes on each monument, including basic facts of its construction (when, by whom, for what reason, where, style), and visual description.  You should be able to provide the name of the monument when you see a picture of it.

 

Guided study question:  What are the distinctive styles of Indian architecture that you have discovered by studying this site?  (identity them by name)

Describe the essential differences between the building style of southern India and Buddhist architecture.  How do these differ from the other sites, such as the Taj Mahal?  How, if at all, do these different architectural styles reflect their respective religious and cultural traditions?  Explain.
